Application Materials for the position of Multimedia Specialist for the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO)

I am a designer and educator focused on creating engaging and accessible learning and compelling design. I am independently driven with a focus on collaboration.

I am excited to submit my application for the multimedia specialist position at your organization. As a designer and educator with experience in learning technologies, I believe I am uniquely qualified to help you transition your exisiting materials into engaging online educational experiences and to help establish the framework for further resources and your learning hub.

My background in educational technologies at Simon Fraser University’s Teaching and Learning Centre (now Centre for Educational Excellence) gave me the necessary insight into considerations when creating online education resources. There I learned and developed materials based on concepts such as accessibility through universal design principles, strengthening learning through multimodal learning, as well as developing and sharing open education resources for a wider reach.

I furthered these practices as an instructor at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Communication Design in my online and in-person classes, for example, by producing YouTube videos for my course content (e.g., Layout Design) and publishing more accessible learning resources on a public-facing blog (e.g., Infographics Workshop). These demonstrate my ability to deliver online learning experiences grounded in best pedagogical principles on accessibility. As well, as an instructor, I have managed and mentored students with their year-long thesis projects and could provide the similar guidance for the Junior Digital Content Specialist

As well, my work as a contract designer allows me to create compelling visual, branding and marketing materials. A quick look at my decades-long relationship with Mile Zero Dance shows some of the diverse range of materials I produce, from moving video posts to season brochures. Currently, I am redesigning their website, collaborating with user experience designers, to create a more engaging website. This experience will help develop your learning platform and maintain branding consistency.

Expanding and legitimizing Traditional Chinese Medicine, and non-Western medical knowledge in general, is of great interest of mine. I believe your organization is doing important work in building trust and confidence in the practice, expanding its reach and legitimizing it as a valid approach to medical care to the larger public. I would be happy to contribute and collaborate to your organization’s vision of protecting the public and building confidence in TCM.

I believe my work experience in design, education, and technology makes me uniquely suited for this opportunity. I would be happy to discuss what approaches you are already considering for your learning hub website, and your needs and vision for the site. I look forward to hearing from you and opportunities to collaborate.

Sincerely,

Gabriel Wong
